The Civil Aviation Safety Authority is investigating a serious incident after a video was uploaded to YouTube showing a man piloting a drone to pick up grilled sausage from ‘Sausage Sizzle’ while he sat at home.

A man, only referred to as Tim, decided to use his drone to fly to Bunnings, an Australian hardware store similar to Home Depot, in order to snag a “Sausage Sizzle” without having to leave the comfort of his home.

The drone operator attached a rope with a note and $10, flew across the highway and various other populated areas, got some help from a bystander and then flew the sausage to a friend in a hot tub.

Just some good harmless fun.

However, CASA spokesperson Peter Gibson said the incident potentially breached a number of drone regulations and may lead to a $9000 fine.

Breaches included use of a drone within 30 meters of people, use out of the line of sight and use over a populous area.

When you live in a place with the deadliest animals on Earth, you can’t blame a guy for not wanting to leave the house.
