A violent home invasion in Houston last week was interrupted when a neighbor heard the commotion and took action, leaving one of the suspects dead and another wounded.
Four men broke into the home around 4 a.m. Tuesday.
Ruben Garcia, 19, said he awakened to the sounds of screaming and moments later was forced out of his bedroom at gunpoint and onto the floor. Garcia was tied up, his 10-year-old sister tied to a chair, and his dad and twin brother, Rene, both pistol whipped.
“I didn’t know what was happening until I saw a man holding a gun to my mom’s head,” Garcia said.
As the suspects were demanding money, a family friend who works with Garcia’s father pulled up to the house and was promptly attacked by the suspects as well.
But soon thereafter, the man who lives next door, who is Garcia’s uncle, heard the commotion, armed himself with a gun, and walked over to see what was happening. The uncle opened fired, fatally striking one of the suspects and hitting another in the leg. The two remaining suspects took off, leaving their wounded comrades behind.
