An Indiana woman is a hero after she stepped in to save the life of a state Conservation Officer.

The incident happened Monday in Southeastern Indiana when the officer was responding to a call of a suspicious person at approximately 12:30 PM in the 8300 block of State Road 56, just west of Rising Sun, Indiana.

After the officer approached 25-year-old Justin Holland, of Moores Hill, Indiana, near a vehicle on the highway, police said that the two began fighting. An unidentified woman at a nearby home came to the scene to help the officer, who was “being overtaken by Holland,” the release said.

The woman fired once from her personally owned gun, striking Holland in the torso, the release said. He was given first aid by witnesses and transported to Dearborn County Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The officer was injured and transported to the Dearborn County Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident is still under investigation and the identity of both the good samaritan and the officer are being withheld by authorities at this time.

Sure hope this woman gets the recognition she both earned and deserves for saving the officer’s life!
