Armed Citizen Steps in to Save Cops from Mob of 40 Teens

When an after school fight broke out at Upper Darby Township, just outside of Philadelphia, two officers responded to the call. But it wasn’t long before a mob started forming, threatening the lives of the officers.

Police are crediting an armed citizen with saving the life of at least one of the officers as he was being attacked.

According to Philly.com, the officer would not have survived if the concerned citizen did not step in.

“There were 40 kids. If it wasn’t for the good Samaritan stepping forward, he’d have been dead meat,” Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said. “There’s no doubt they would have attacked him.”

Tensions were running high on Friday as police responded to at least 3 fights near the school after hours. But one of the worst fights took place less than a mile away from school ground, where police were losing control of the situation.

An officer who broke up a fight between two teen boys that had attracted a large crowd at that location was holding one of the combatants at bay when the teen’s opponent attacked the officer, Chitwood said.
