It seems the American political left has a track record of expecting complete obedience from its side. Anyone who deviates from that path is blasted and attacked almost immediately, and, from the outside, it tends to look particularly vicious. It’s like leftists tend to save all their worst vitriol for other leftists who disagree with them.

It’s things like that which make it amusing to watch the left turn on itself from time to time.

The Parkland shooting has created the opportunity for a lot of open dialogue about gun control, and although it is amazing that many students are holding legislators accountable for change, it cannot be ignored that black youth have not received the same love from the public in return.

Unfortunately, we live in a society where black lives, especially young black lives, are not seen as valuable as white lives. Being black in America and seeing headlines like, “Parkland student calls March for Our Lives: the ‘birth of a revolution,’” it’s impossible to not feel slighted because black Americans have been fighting this fight for years, from Mike Brown in 2014 to Rodney King in 1992 and even farther back.
