CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — An armed citizen, allowed to be armed in the last state to allow concealed carry, fatally shot a 23-year-old man who tried to rob him at gunpoint.

Local media reports on the incident:

Shaquille Gales, 23, of Bellwood, walked up to the older man about 5:45 p.m. in the 5500 block of West Thomas Street, pulled out a gun and demanded his property, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The 58-year-old, a concealed-carry permit holder, pulled out his own weapon and shot the attempted robber, police said.

Initial reports stated that Gales was shot in the head, but after a medical examination, it was determined that the bullet entered his chest via his arm.

Since concealed carry became law in Illinois on January 5th of 2014, many citizens of the state have applied and received their permits.
