Actress Alyssa Milano has been outspoken in using her celebrity platform to spread her liberal ideology, but she had to walk back a claim she made about guns that fell short of actually being true.

What did she say?

“There are no background checks on long guns (AR15s) in Texas,” she tweeted.

She thanked Shannon Watts, the founder of a gun control advocacy group, for the information.

Is that true?

It turns out that her claim wasn’t quite true. Politifact rated it “mostly false,” explaining that although Texas has no law enforcing background checks on AR-15s, the federal government does.

“Federal law requires federally licensed gun dealers, importers, and manufacturers to run background checks before selling firearms of any kind to an unlicensed buyer,” said Ari Freilich, a staff attorney at the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.

But because Milano exaggerated, or misunderstood the information she received from Shannon Watts, her claim that there were absolutely no background checks on those guns was rated mostly false.
