Around 2a.m. on Sunday morning the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a burglary where shots were fired at a home off Happy Hill Road in Kingsport.

When deputies arrived, the 70-year old homeowner said he woke up to someone shining a light in his bedroom window. He then observed a man standing outside, who then broke the bedroom window and started to climb inside.

At that point the homeowner told officers he grabbed a pistol and fired it at the suspect causing the man to fall back. The suspect then ran to a dark colored vehicle, got in the driver’s seat and sped off.

While on scene officers received information that a man had just arrived at Holston Valley Medical Center with gunshot wounds. That man was identified as 44-year old Jason Scott McClellan.

At this time McClellan remains hospitalized but is expected to recover.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
