According to the Chicago Tribune’s Redeye Report, Chicago has had 383 reported homicides in 2014 so far. That averages to more than one person a day being murdered in the almost-gun-free city. The death toll for this year is quickly catching up to the 2013 Chicago homicide rate, which is 421 deaths, which was actually an improvement from the 509 murders in Chicago reported in 2012.
