Three correctional officers were assaulted and injured in a Tennessee prison attack Sunday, with two in stable condition and one already released from a local hospital.
Officer Lester Ball was treated and released overnight and officers Jesse Shockley and Paul Nielsen remain in the hospital in stable condition, the Tennessee Department of Correction said in a news release.
At approximately 4 p.m. on Sunday, 16 inmates caused a disturbance at the Turney Center Industrial Complex in Only, Tennessee. The news release indicates the three officers were stabbed multiple times during the incident, and that Officer Shockley was taken hostage and held for nearly three hours.
The department’s Special Operations Unit diffused the situation, without having to use force, at approximately 7 p.m. Officer Shockley was released without further conflict.
The inmates involved were transported to Morgan County Correctional complex, a maximum security prison.
“We continue to ask for prayers for our officers,” department Commissioner Tony Parker said in the news release.  “I had an opportunity to personally visit two of the officers this morning.  I have asked our Office of Investigation and Compliance and the TBI to leave no stone unturned and to fully investigate this incident and prosecute those involved to the fullest extent of the law.
