The reality of Chicago’s gun problem just keeps getting more vivid.

According to a statement from Oak Park police, a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed by a concealed carry permit holder this weekend.

The suspect was armed when he approached a man in a bank parking lot near Madison Street and Austin Boulevard in the west suburban suburb of Oak Park at approximately 11:15 a.m. and tried to rob him at gunpoint Saturday. The man, a 24-year-old with a valid Illinois conceal-carry permit, drew his own weapon and exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who ran to a getaway vehicle that fled the scene into Chicago.

An off-duty officer was in the area and detained the man, who was cooperative in the police investigation of the armed robbery.

Police said the suspect was brought into Stroger Hospital in Chicago, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.

Five people were killed and 44 wounded in shootings over Memorial Day Weekend, a grim improvement over last year’s total of 7 killed and 61 injured.

The incident is still under investigation although no charges have been filed against the man who allegedly shot the suspect in self-defense. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact police …Read the Rest
