An 11-year-old boy faces criminal charges after he stabbed a police officer outside of his home in Lowell, Massachusetts, on Sunday, but the boy’s mother claims the act was unintentional and it’s all just a big misunderstanding.
The boy’s mother, who did not want to be identified, said her son has had terrible run-ins with a group of older teens since they moved to the area six months ago. On the day of the incident, the bullies apparently chased the 11-year-old home.
“My son called me downstairs and said they’re in my car, vandalizing my car. So I came downstairs to try to settle everything and in the midst of that, my son was trying to tell me one of the kids came into the house. That’s when he grabbed the knife to protect himself,” the boy’s mother told reporters.
The mother called 911 to report the incident, but when the officer arrived on the scene, things went from bad to worse for the boy. When her son ran out of the house holding the knife, the officer tried to intervene, and during the struggle for the knife is when the officer was stabbed in the hand and arm. The mom noted that
