One man and a teenage young man are in custody after they attempted to rob an undercover police officer at gunpoint. Here is how the story unfolded.

There had been multiple armed robberies in the area of Buchanan in Gary Indiana after people tried to buy an iPhone off of the app “Offerup”. After police had heard of the problem a few separate occasions they came up with the idea of having one of their own contacting the same ad to “purchase a iPhone”.

So they put up an undercover detective to the task and a meeting was set up on the app. The detective arrived to find a 18 year old man and a 17 year old teenager in a truck.

As they started to discuss the phone he was there to purchase, sure enough the two of them pulled out their weapons and ordered the detective to hand over his keys and get on the ground. They also demanded he hand over his phone and the marked cash the officer had brought to purchase the phone.
