On July 28, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) admitted his latest gun control push is “going nowhere” because there is zero support for his new gun control push among the Republicans who control the Senate.

Manchin said, “[The] bill’s not going to come back up.”

According to Bloomberg Politics, Manchin said, “Everybody’s on the record,” which means Democrats are on the record for gun control and Republicans on are the record for gun rights. It also means that “no Senator” who opposed Manchin’s gun control in 2013 has changed his or her mind and decided to support it now.

Senate Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) spokesman Don Stewart made clear the Majority Leader “has no interest in revisiting the bill.”

Speaking as if dumbfounded by the lack of support for gun control, Manchin said his gun control push is “pure common sense.” He said, “We’re talking about, strictly, filling the holes and the gaps that we have in commercial gun transactions, which is at gun shows and the Internet. That’s all. Very simple.”
