CEDAR RAPIDS, IA — One man went directly form the hospital right to jail after attempting a burglary at gunpoint.

Unfortunately for him, he couldn’t manage to hold onto his gun, and he paid for it, big time.

As KWWL reports:

The incident happened on June 21st at a home in the 400 block of Fairway Terrace SE, near the Cedar Rapids County Club. 26-year-old Ethan Deyo was living in the home when the crime happened, police say he called them saying he shot a burglar inside his house.

Police say 43-year-old Sherman Hopkins is charged with Kidnapping in the First Degree, Robbery in the First Degree and Burglary in the First Degree. According to the criminal complaint Deyo went into a bedroom to try and get away from Hopkins after he came into his house but he forced his way into the bedroom.

The complaint goes on to say Hopkins ordered Deyo to log in to his computer and transfer a domain name to a third party, that’s when Deyo grabbed the gun and a struggle began between the two. During the altercation the gun went off shooting Deyo in the foot, according to the …Read the Rest
