Career criminal gets 15 years after throwing ‘strap’ in woods during pursuit

A Tennessee man was sentenced to 15 years in prison this week for possessing a firearm while being a felon.
According to a Justice Department news release, 40-year-old Preston Bryson was sentenced as an armed career offender for three previous drug-related convictions.
Information presented in court showed that on Sept. 1, 2016, Bryson ran from West Tennessee Violent Crimes and Drug Task Force agents trying to serve an outstanding parole violation warrant in Humboldt, Tennessee. Bryson was captured by agents shortly after, methamphetamine and cocaine were found near where he ran.
Bryson was then recorded in a jail call saying he had thrown a “strap” in the woods while running from the agents. The agents later found the North American Arms .22 caliber revolver in the area where the man had fled.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the West Tennessee Violent Crimes and Drug Task Force; and the U.S. attorney’s office investigated the case.
