An Ohio State alum and current NFL defensive tackle was arrested on a misdemeanor weapons charge in Sharonville, Ohio on Sunday and came “this close” to getting shot.
Adolphus Washington, a third round 2016 NFL Draft pick, is scheduled to be in court later this month on a charge of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle after an interaction with police.
In the above body cam footage of Washington’s arrest, the 24-year-old former All-American is asked by police, “Why in the hell would you have that gun in your hand?” after officers disarmed him as he sat in his Polaris Slingshot three-wheel roadster. Sharonville Police were clearing a parking lot at Splash, a Cincinnati-area water park, at around 10 p.m., when the encounter occurred, as reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Washington, who has a permit, says he was putting the gun away after retrieving it from under the seat.
“Ninety-nine percent of the time, what would have happened tonight?” asked the officer.
“I would have got shot. I know it. I understand,” Washington said.
“You know it,” replied the officer. “Bad me, bad you.”
